There’s a prompt list for Drawgust created by Hey Guncle on Instagram. The idea is to help him create a calendar for 2024. I loved the list and thought yes I can be down with this.

The first prompt is FLOWER for March. My first step when I approach these jumping off points, is to open up a blank page and brainstorm ideas and concepts that come to me. It takes a few thumbnails and notes before something jumps into my head and I just know it’s the idea I want to develop. It was when I hit upon the pun of a Dandy Lion, I had my eureka moment.

It took a few sketches before I hit on the composition and now that I have that decided, it’s time to draw out the first draft. I concentrated first on the plant itself. Which is where today’s time had been spent. I was inspired by Bert Lahr’s Lion in the one and only Wizard of Oz. You can’t get camper and dandier! I’ll draw the morph character when I next open my pad.
